About the Role

PetDesk is expanding its engineering presence in Sri Lanka by establishing a local data engineering team. This contract position focuses on building and maintaining the models, pipelines, and platform components necessary to make company data reliable and actionable.

What You Will Do

• Design and build dimensional and analytical models in dbt across a cloud data warehouse
• Develop and maintain ingestion and orchestration pipelines using dbt Core, Snowflake SQL, and Python
• Profile source data from transactional systems and third-party integrations to determine business meaning and keys
• Implement robust data quality tests, monitoring, and alerting systems
• Diagnose production data issues across various layers and document root causes
• Participate in design and code reviews with cross-regional engineering teams
• Partner with analysts and stakeholders to clarify requirements and validate results

What You Need

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, including 3+ years building analytical models in a cloud data warehouse
• Advanced SQL expertise for writing, debugging, and optimizing complex queries, with Snowflake experience preferred
• Production experience with dbt model layering, testing, documentation, and version-controlled projects
• Proficiency in Python for pipeline development, API integrations, and orchestration tools like Airflow
• Strong ability to investigate undocumented source systems and map data to real business processes
• Experience with Git-based development, pull request reviews, and CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with BI tools such as Tableau, Looker, or Power BI
• Clear written and verbal English communication skills with strong async habits

Work Arrangement

• Contract engagement based in Colombo, Sri Lanka
