About the Role

Circles is seeking a Software Engineering Intern specializing as a Database Administrator for a 6-month program in Sri Lanka. You will support the team in managing and monitoring enterprise databases for large-scale telecommunications platforms and customer-facing services.

What You Will Do

• Assist in the daily administration, health monitoring, and operational troubleshooting of Oracle, MySQL/MariaDB, and MongoDB environments.
• Support senior database administrators with backup validation, basic RMAN operations, and routine maintenance tasks.
• Develop and maintain Shell, Python, or Bash scripts to automate repetitive database operations, health checks, and reporting.
• Identify slow-running queries and inefficient database operations, collaborating with application teams on optimization.
• Participate in database security compliance activities, incident management, problem resolution, and planned deployment calls.

What You Need

• Recently completed a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or a related field, or undergraduates awaiting final results.
• Basic understanding of relational databases, SQL, and database administration principles.
• Familiarity with Oracle, MySQL/MariaDB, Mongo, or PostgreSQL databases along with basic Linux/Unix administration.
• Basic scripting knowledge in Shell, Bash, or Python, with exposure to automation tools like Ansible or Terraform being an advantage.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills with a keen interest in cloud infrastructure and site reliability engineering.

Work Arrangement

• 6-month internship duration
• Location: Sri Lanka
