About the Role

Axiata Digital Labs is seeking a Senior Engineer - Data Science for a 12-month contract engagement to design, develop, and optimize advanced machine learning and AI systems for enterprise environments.

What You Will Do

• Design, develop, and optimize classical machine learning models including regression, classification, clustering, time-series forecasting, and anomaly detection.
• Build and deploy deep learning models using frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch for structured, unstructured, and multimodal data.
• Fine-tune and evaluate language models (LLMs/SLMs) for text classification, summarization, information extraction, and domain-specific reasoning.
• Implement and maintain MLOps and LLMOps pipelines, covering model training, versioning, CI/CD, deployment, rollback, and lifecycle management.
• Develop model monitoring and observability solutions for performance, drift detection, bias, latency, and cost metrics, and apply AIOps concepts for automation.
• Collaborate with API managers and platform teams to expose AI and ML capabilities as secure, scalable APIs.
• Perform rigorous model validation, benchmarking, contribute to technical design documents, and mentor junior engineers and interns.

What You Need

• A Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of hands-on experience in data science or machine learning engineering roles.
• Strong experience with Python and common ML/DL libraries such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, NumPy, and pandas.
• Proven experience developing and deploying production-grade ML models and working with MLOps platforms like MLflow, Kubeflow, SageMaker, or Vertex AI.
• Practical exposure to LLMOps, APIs, microservices, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and containerization tools including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a pragmatic, engineering-first mindset.

Work Arrangement

• 12-month contract engagement, based on-site in Colombo.
